Huntsville is set to celebrate the vital role of dads in a fun, free, and family-friendly way as the Parks & Recreation Department rolls out its annual “Dads’ Day at the Park” event. On Saturday, June 14, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Loretta P. Spencer Sports Complex at John Hunt Park will become a vibrant hub of activity and appreciation. The goal: to recognize the impact and presence of fathers and father figures in the Huntsville community through a meaningful celebration just in time for Father’s Day weekend.

No Registration, No Cost – Just Show Up and Celebrate

The best part? No registration is required, and admission is completely free. Whether you’re a father, grandfather, uncle, mentor, or simply someone who plays a fatherly role in someone’s life, this inclusive event is designed for all ages and all family sizes. By eliminating cost and logistical barriers, Huntsville’s Parks & Recreation team has created an event where everyone is welcome to join in and feel celebrated.

Food, Music, Sports & More

The “Dads’ Day at the Park” experience offers a wide range of interactive and entertaining activities. The event will feature live music to keep the atmosphere upbeat and energetic, and local food trucks will be available to offer delicious bites and refreshments throughout the day.

Athletic dads and sports enthusiasts can jump into friendly games and competitions that encourage both fun and a little healthy rivalry. A major highlight of the day is the Home Run Derby, where dads can show off their batting skills and compete for fun prizes — or bragging rights!

Crafts, Community & Connection

For families with younger children, the event includes a craft area where kids can express their creativity and make special mementos for their dads. These personalized keepsakes add a heartwarming touch to the celebration and create lasting memories for both parents and children.

According to Parks & Recreation Director James Gossett, the event is about more than just games and prizes. “We wanted to create a space where families can come together, have fun, and celebrate the positive impact of father figures in our community,” he shared. “This day is all about honoring the people who show up and support.”

Whether you’re enjoying a game of catch, dancing to live music, or simply soaking in the sunshine with your family, “Dads’ Day at the Park” is a beautiful reminder of how small moments can make a big difference.
